Dosage
Oral. Adultos: 200 mg cada 4 horas por un mes, posteriormente reducir la dosis a 100 mg cada 4 horas. Niños de 3 meses a 11 años: 100 a 120 mg/m2 de superficie corporal/día, divididas cada 4 horas. Intravenosa 2 mg/kg dosis inicial en infusión para una hora, seguida de 1mg/kg/hora en infusión continua hasta el nacimiento. En Cesárea programada, iniciar tres horas antes de la incisión. En trabajo de parto, desde que inicia el trabajo de parto hasta el nacimiento. RN >35 semanas de edad gestacional al nacimiento: ZDV 3 mg/kg/dosis IV cada 12 horas, iniciar entre 6 y 12 horas después del nacimiento. Del nacimiento a las 4 a 6 semanas (se recomienda la profilaxis durante 6 semanas; considerar 4 semanas cuando existe control virológico sostenido de la madre).

Pregnancy warnings
Existen efectos secundarios en fetos de animales de experimentación. No hay hasta el momento estudios adecuados en los seres humanos, por lo que se desconocen los riesgos de su utilización en mujeres embarazadas. Cefalea, fiebre, náusea, vómito, síndrome pseudogripal, ansiedad, anemia, neutropenia y leucopenia.
