Dosage
Intravenosa. Adultos y niños: 1 mg/kg de peso corporal/dosis, cada 6 horas. Sin pasar de tres dosis, en metahemoglobinemia severa.
General information
Antídoto con propiedades óxidorreductoras, que oxida el hierro y convierte la forma ferrosa de la hemoglobina reducida en la forma férrica.
Pregnancy warnings
No hay riesgo para el feto en el primer trimestre del embarazo. No hay pruebas de riesgo en los últimos trimestres del embarazo.
Precautions
Respuesta paradójica en sobredosis, puede originar incremento de la metahemoglobina. El tratamiento en metahemoglobinemia secundaria a azul de metileno, es la exsanguíneo transfusión y ácido ascórbico.
Adverse effects
Náusea, lipotimia, vómito, dolor torácico, sudoración.
