Dosage
Oral. Adultos: La dosis se debe ajustar dependiendo del peso corporal del paciente en: <75 kg, 1000 mg/día dividido en dos cápsulas o tabletas por la mañana y tres por la noche ≥75 kg, 1200 mg/día dividido en tres cápsulas o tabletas por la mañana y tres por la noche. Oral. Adultos: 400 mg cada 8 horas. Niños: 15 a 25 mg/kg de peso corporal/día dividido cada 8 horas.
General information
Es un antiviral nucleósido-análogo-sintético que se activa mediante enzimas no codificadas por el virus lo cual le permite actuar contra una gran variedad de virus. Actúa inhibiendo el proceso de guanilación de ARN mensajero viral y adicionalmente inhibe la actividad del ARN y ADN polimerasas en los respectivos virus así como, la retrotranscriptasa del HIV.
Pregnancy warnings
Existen efectos secundarios en fetos de animales de experimentación. No hay hasta el momento estudios adecuados en los seres humanos, por lo que se desconocen los riesgos de su utilización en mujeres embarazadas. LA TERAPIA MEDICAMENTOSA SÓLO ES VALIDA CUANDO EL PROBLEMA DE SALUD INDICA SIN LUGAR A DUDAS, LA NECESIDAD DE SU EMPLEO.
Precautions
El uso de ribavirina como monoterapia en hepatitis C no es efectivo, por lo que no debe utilizarse sola, la seguridad y eficacia del tratamiento combinado se ha establecido solamente con la combinación de ribavirina e interferón alfa-2b. Existen variaciones entre las diferentes marcas de interferón en dosis, vías de administración y efectos adversos. Por ello, únicamente interferón alfa-2b debe utilizarse en combinación con ribavirina cápsulas.
Adverse effects
A dosis mayores de las recomendadas y por periodos mayores a 4 semanas se han reportado, en algunos casos, disminución relativa y transitoria en las cifras de hemoglobina, hematócrito y eritrocitos. Sin impedir continuar con el tratamiento.
